The programme is associated with the Happy Doctor Marathon but operates as a separate and distinct initiative, with its own nomination process, evaluation methodology. Nominations are assessed against published criteria, and final selections are made through a defined evaluation and jury process. Nominate Now What This Is Not The Awards do not rank medical competence and do not compare clinical outcomes between practitioners or institutions. They recognise documented, evidence-based contribution \u2014 not clinical superiority. \u2014 Purpose &amp; Vision Recognition for the practitioners who rarely get it Doctors, AYUSH practitioners, and smaller healthcare institutions across Tamil Nadu frequently contribute to community health, patient care, and medical education without receiving structured, public recognition. Larger hospital groups and well-established practitioners are more visible on existing recognition platforms; independent practitioners and SME institutions often are not. \u00a0The Happy Doctor Excellence Awards 2026 exists to close that gap \u2014 through a defined, evidence-based process that identifies and honours contribution across community service, patient-centred care, medical education, healthcare innovation, and public health work, for both Allopathic and AYUSH practice. Nominate Now Nominate Now Why HAPPY DOCTOR We have spent years asking how healthcare can be made better. It is worth also asking how the people who deliver it can be supported and recognised. Doctors carry responsibility, uncertainty, long hours, and the emotional weight of caring for others \u2014 often without acknowledgement. Happy Doctor began as a movement built on a simple belief: doctors give a great deal to everyone else, and they deserve, in return, to have that giving noticed, valued, and celebrated. The Happy Doctor Marathon celebrates doctors through participation and gratitude. The Happy Doctor Excellence Awards extend that same belief into formal recognition \u2014 evaluated fairly, and grounded in evidence. Who Can Participate SME Hospitals &amp; Healthcare Institutions Small and mid-sized hospitals, clinics, and healthcare institutions Allopathic Doctors Individual medical practitioners registered under India&#8217;s Allopathic medical system AYUSH Healthcare Institutions AYUSH hospitals, clinics, and wellness institutions AYUSH Practitioners Registered practitioners of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Homoeopathy, Yoga, and Naturopathy Both self-nomination and third-party nomination are accepted. Doctors and AYUSH practitioners may nominate themselves or be nominated by a colleague, institution, or member of the public. Hospitals and institutions may nominate themselves through an authorised representative, or be nominated by a third party with the institution&#8217;s knowledge. Every nomination, regardless of source, undergoes the same eligibility screening and evaluation process \u2014 a third-party nomination receives no preferential or reduced scrutiny. Geographic Eligibility Chennai Nominee&#8217;s primary registered practice address (for doctors) or head office\/flagship branch address (for institutions) is located within Chennai. Nominate Now Tamil Nadu \u2014 Excluding Chennai Nominee&#8217;s primary registered practice address or head office\/flagship branch address is located anywhere in Tamil Nadu outside Chennai city limits. Nominate Now Multi-branch institutions are classified by their flagship\/head-office address, disclosed at the time of nomination, and may not be nominated under both geographic categories for the same entity. Doctors practising across multiple locations are classified by the primary practice address listed on their professional registration or practice certificate. Award categories One flagship honour, and four modules spanning Allopathic doctors, SME institutions, AYUSH doctors, and AYUSH institutions \u2014 each judged by category and geography. \u2014 The Flagship Award \ud83c\udfc6 The Happy Doctor Award For the Doctor Who Makes Healthcare More Human The highest honour of the Happy Doctor Excellence Awards, presented to one doctor each year. No nomination fee applies to the Happy Doctor Award Every other category in this programme recognises excellence in a specific area of practice. The Happy Doctor\u00a0Award recognises something different \u2014 a doctor whose presence in the lives of patients, colleagues, and the wider healthcare community has left people genuinely grateful to have known them. It asks a different question than the rest of the programme: not &#8220;who is the best doctor,&#8221;\u00a0but &#8220;who is the doctor people are grateful to have in their life.&#8221; Because this award is evaluative rather than clinical, and because the programme does not collect or judge on patient testimonials, the Gratitude Award is decided entirely on documented third-party nomination\u00a0\u2014 not on a jury&#8217;s personal impression, and not on any claim made by the nominee themselves. Nominate Now How It Is Judged: A nominee for the Happy Doctor must be nominated by others \u2014 colleagues, mentees, institutions, or community partners \u2014 through signed, written nomination letters submitted as part of the nomination package (see Section 8). The evaluation panel scores the documented pattern\u00a0of these nominations against four dimensions: \u2160 Contribution What has the doctor consistently given to patients, colleagues, the profession, or the community, as described and evidenced in the nomination letters? \u2161 Humanity Do the nomination letters describe consistent dignity, kindness, and respect in how the doctor treats people? \u2162 Inspiration Has the doctor&#8217;s conduct or journey influenced younger doctors, healthcare teams, or the wider community, as evidenced by specific examples in the nominations received? \u2163 Breadth of gratitude How many distinct people, and from how many parts of the doctor&#8217;s professional life (patients&#8217; families, junior staff, peers, institutions), have independently put their appreciation in writing?
